About the Artesian Building
Each apartment features a separate living room with faux fireplace, a bedroom big enough for a king-size bed, a dining room, kitchen, pantry, bathroom and numerous closets. Heat, cooking gas and a storage locker are included in the rent.
The building has its own on-site laundry facility and a friendly common patio, complete with grapevine foilage.
Because of the size of the building, the addresses vary among apartments -- 6256 and 6258 N. Artesian (entrances facing east) and 2435, 2443 and 2445 W. Rosemont (entrances facing north).
Location
6256-58 N. Artesian (2435-45 W. Rosemont) is one block south and one block west of Devon and Western on Chicago's North Side. It sits on the corner of Artesian and Rosemont.
Convenient bus/el connections to downtown are just one block away, via Western (49 Western Bus to Brown Line Western stop) or Devon (155 Devon Bus to Red Line Loyola stop).
Building History
Built in 1932 as a doctor's office with attached residences, the building stayed in the same family until 2000 when it was purchased by Price-Miranda Associates. Because of the tender-loving care of the original owners and its numerous long-term tenants, the building has kept many of its original art-deco touches.
The doctor specified "modern" conveniences for the apartments, so they have many custom features...the most important being that the apartments are huge for one bedrooms and have tons of closets.
We have added to those conveniences with modern refrigerators, stoves, upgraded electrical/plumbing, new windows, and ceiling fans. We have a computer-controlled heating, but have kept a steam radiator system, which adds more comfortable levels of humidity during the winter than forced-air systems (and we pay for the heat!).
